Ride for Sight – the results are in!

It’s hard to believe it has already been 1 month since we attended the 2013 Ride for Sight! Maybe it’s because we have been so busy with the after math of the flood that time has flown by. Or perhaps it is because it’s summer, and that’s what summer does. Either way, we wanted to take a moment to thank everyone who volunteered, participated and donated to this great cause!
For those of you who are not aware, the Ride for Sight is Canada’s longest running motorcycle fundraiser in support of sight-saving research. The ride takes place across Canada, bringing together thousands of riders and volunteers to raise money for the Foundation Fighting Blindness. The Foundation has a vision to restore the gift of sight to people living with genetic forms of blindness. Founded in 1974, it has grown to become Canada’s leading private supporter of retina research.
Our Brokerage was a Gold sponsor for this year’s Ride for Sight, and spent the weekend in Ponoka taking in some of the events and manning our booth. We got a chance to watch the High Flyers perform some of their motorcycle stunts, and Larry took his Honda Rune for a ride in the Parade of Motorcycles. At our booth, we had draws for several different prizes, including a Harley-Davidson Clock and Cooler (which coincidentally was won by the Mayor of Ponoka!), as well as a Samsung Tablet. We also gave away many key chains, candies, stickers, magnets, and other fun trinkets.
We would like to take a minute to thank our Insurer Partners who donated prizes and giveaways for this event:
– AVIVA Insurance Company (men’s and ladie’s golf shirts)
– Intact Insurance Company (duffle bag, men’s and ladie’s golf shirts)
– Echelon General Insurance Company (pens, RV “stress balls”, Harley-Davidson Clock and Cooler)
– Peace Hills Insurance Company (Samsung Tablet)
The number of attendees was down from last year, largely and understandably due to the flooding in Southern Alberta. Even so, many people attended the event and the organization was able to raise much needed funds in support of the Foundation Fighting Blindness.
For all of the motorcycle enthusiasts out there, and for anyone who has been impacting directly or indirectly by blindness, please mark your calendars for June 2014. We would love to see you there!
Thank you,
The Costen & Associates Team
