Although the leaves have been turning beautiful shades of yellow, red, and orange for a few weeks now, September 23rd marks the official start to fall! There is a chill is in the air and one can’t help but be reminded that another winter season is just around the corner.

In preparation of the colder days (and weeks) ahead, we are sharing some fall maintenance tips for inside your home!

Home maintenance tips to protect your home this fall:

  1. Apply weather stripping to windows and doors and caulk as necessary.
  2. Have your heating system checked and serviced, and turn up the temperature as necessary.
  3. Have your wood stove and/or fireplace inspected to ensure they are in good working condition.
  4. Check your electrical outlets for potential fire hazards (frayed wires, overloaded outlets, etc.).

  6. Change the direction of your ceiling fan(s) to distribute warm air from the ceiling.
  7. Test the batteries in your smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors.

  • Clean behind your stove and fridge.
  • Clean out your dryer vent.
  • Clean your light fixtures and replace burnt out bulbs.
  • Touch up interior paint as required (now is a good time while it’s not too cold to open up your windows).
