2019 Charity of the Year: Mid-Year Update

Scroll

We just passed the 1/2 way point of 2019 (wow!) and we want to provide an update on our 2019 Charity of the Year, Autism and Aspergers Friendship Society of Calgary (AAFS Calgary, for short).

Here’s a little reminder on who they are:

AAFS provides respite care in a social and recreational environment for children, youth and adults on the Autism spectrum, This includes Autism, Aspergers, Pervasive Developmental Disorder, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder and Non-Verbal Learning Disorder. They provide a welcoming and save environment for their members to learn social thinking and to take social risks, including practicing and developing interpersonal, relationship and communication skills.

Here are a few things our friends at AAFS Calgary would like to share:

  • Donations can be made to AAFS Calgary through Birdies for Kids.
  • One of their parents, Michelle Siegal, was recognized by Curling Alberta as their Volunteer of the Year!
  • Members from their Lacrosse Program are traveling to Vancouver later this month to take part in some lacrosse games and enjoy meals with some of the teams.
  • Brittany Morrison will be competing in Stranded Water Valley from August 9th – 11th, raising money for Kids up Front.
  • They have 20 camping trips scheduled this summer for their members.
  • Their AMPed program has partnered with MoMo Dance Studio to produce a short art film that incorporates multiple groups from the community.
  • KMS Tools is hosting a Show & Shine on July 27th and AAFS Calgary will be running the BBQ and accepting donations.
  • Michael McCreary will be hosting an event at a local brewery September 19th (details to follow).
  • They will be celebrating their 15th anniversary on September 21st.
  • They are looking at opening a second club house in the north end of Calgary.
  • They have two new vans, which they obtained through the generosity of the Allardyce Bower Foundation and another foundation.

Customer Referral Program

Through our Customer Referral Program, Snack Box, and the 50/50 draw from our Stampede Breakfast, we have raised over $800.00 to-date for AAFS Calgary.  Thank you to everyone who has referred their friends, family and associates to us.  We sincerely appreciate the support of our Brokerage and of our Charity of the Year!  As a reminder, for each referral that results in new business, we will donate $5.00 to this great charity, so please keep those referrals coming!

We also have our great Customer Referral Contest, which is on now until December 31st.

For more information on our Charity of the Year, or to find out how you can help, please visit them here.

Thank you and we look forward to continuing our support of this great charity for the remainder of 2019!
